Monday- Continue our review of what is expected on the writing assessment and begin putting together “great” paragraphs
Tuesday- Work on paragraph formation and review the poems “To a Golden-Haired Girl in a Louisiana Town” & “Gold”
Wednesday- Finish review of poems from Tuesday & Begin poem “Buffalo Dusk”
Thursday- Review Poetry Skills & Vocabulary; Writing Paragraphs
Friday- Test on Review 5 Vocabulary; Poetry Comprehension Test

Monday: Library Day- turn in all books

Tuesday:

reading: complete projects with story

enriched reading: begin rewriting “Twas the Night before Christmas” using similes, metaphors, synonyms, and antonyms

Wednesday:

reading: present stories to 6th grade classes

enriched reading: complete project

Thursday:

reading and enriched reading: holiday activity (in class)

Week of Dec. 10- 14

Monday:

reading: Students will study prefixes and suffixes along with our vocabulary for “The Smallest Dragonboy”.

enriched reading: Students will complete chapters 1- 15 and answer novel questions for homework along with assigned reading.

Tuesday:

reading: Test on “The Smallest Dragonboy”

enriched reading: class discussion/ continue reading

Wednesday:

reading: Students will begin the short story “Twas the Night Before Christmas”; including a study of synonyms and antonyms/ similes and metaphors.

enriched reading: continue novel

Thursday:

reading: Begin rewriting of short story (in class project)

enriched reading: complete novel (chapters 16- 19)

Friday:

reading: continue working on project

enriched reading: novel discussion/ questions/ project (in class)

Week of Dec. 3- 7

Monday: LIBRARY DAY

Tuesday:

reading: Students will begin “Smallest Dragonboy” page 147 in textbook. Students will evaluate artwork and define/ use vocabulary from the story.

enriched reading: Students will begin the novel Nothing but the Truth. Students will be engaged in pre-reading activities. We will also assign reading parts to each student.

Wednesday:

reading- Students will read the short story in class. Discussion questions will be assigned for homework.

enriched reading- read in novel/ discussion

Thursday: 

reading- review questions and vocabulary- vocabulary development activity assigned in class.

enriched reading- read novel/ discussion

Friday: 

reading- recognizing roots and affixes/ create a “family” tree using vocabulary

enriched reading- read novel/ discussion

Monday: 

reading: test on “Smallest Dragonboy”

enriched reading: quiz over chapters covered in novel

Week of November 26- 30

This week we will be working on a variety of test taking skills in preparation for our TCAP test in the spring. Each day different skills will be covered.

Here are some of the skills we will be covering:

strategy

organization

narration

persuasive writing

expository writing

cause and effect

**November 28th we will be visiting the Paige Robbins Adult Daycare Center after school. Thank you to all of the students that have volunteered to help with this event.

**”Do the Right Thing” projects are due December 7. Make sure you are collecting your articles!!!!

**All extra credit (AR test)  is due by  December 14. Points earned may be used as extra credit.

**Look for Angel Tree information to come home this week!!

Week of Nov. 13- 16

Monday- NO SCHOOL

Tuesday- We will begin reading the story “After 20 Years” in our reading textbook. Students will complete vocabulary for homework.

Wednesday- We will complete our story and have a class discussion. Students will complete story questions in class.

Thursday- Review story and vocabulary.

Friday- TEST

Week of November 5- 9

Monday- Students will begin a rough draft of a five paragraph essay- expository writing

Tuesday- Students will complete and turn in rough draft of essay.

Wednesday- Students will learn the “editing process” and begin peer editing essays in class.

Thursday- Students will create final copies of their edited essays.

Friday- Students will begin the short story “After 20 Years” in their reading textbooks.

*essay writing will be done in class

**students should be working on the “Do the Right Thing” project due Dec. 7

Monday- Begin Cartoon Vocab. lesson 3- AR project due Friday (or test)

Tuesday- Cartoon Vocab./ article project due on Wed., students will be given a newspaper  in class to  complete project

Wedneday- complete vocab./ article project

Thursday- read “The Necklace” and discuss

Friday- Students will complete discussion questions for story and also  turn in all AR tests and projects!!
